What to Expect at Your First Sports Therapy (Sport Rehabilitation) Session
By All Pro Rehab | July 14, 2026
Quick reassurance: People regularly tell us our office feels clean, welcoming, and that we can assess what’s going on quickly without making the first visit feel intense.

If you’re nervous for your first sports therapy appointment, you’re not alone. A lot of people walk in thinking they’ll be pushed hard on day one or that they’re going to leave in more pain. That’s not how we run Sport Rehabilitation at All Pro Rehab. Your first session is assessment-first, goal-first, and plan-first. You’ll leave knowing what we found, what we’re going to work on, and what you’ll do between visits so you’re not guessing.
Before you drive to our Gateway Blvd office: what to bring for sport rehabilitation
We’re in the Gateway Boulevard office and retail district in west Boynton Beach near I-95, so getting here is usually simple. The part that helps most is arriving with a few basics so we can spend your time on answers, not paperwork.
Bring these items
- Your ID and insurance card (if you’re using insurance)
- Any imaging reports you already have (MRI, X-ray) and referral paperwork, if applicable
- A short list of what makes it worse or better, plus what you want to get back to (gym, tennis, beach walks, work tasks)
Wear this (especially in July)
- Breathable athletic clothing you can move in. Boynton Beach summers are hot and humid, and you’ll be doing simple movement tests.
- Sneakers or stable shoes if you have them.
- Go light on heavy sunscreen or body oil on areas we may need to observe or work with. It tends to rub off during testing.
And hydrate before you come in. In July, a lot of people show up a little dehydrated without realizing it, and that can make you feel more crampy during mobility and strength checks. Also plan a tiny buffer if afternoon storms are rolling through.
Your first 45 to 60 minutes of sports therapy: the step-by-step
Here’s the real flow of a first Sport Rehabilitation session with our team. It’s not a mystery appointment, and it’s not a bootcamp.
1) Intake and a quick, focused history
We’ll talk through what happened, what you’ve tried, and what you need your body to do again. People come in for everything from a hip flexor tweak at the gym, to long-standing neck and low back pain, to sport-specific issues like an ankle roll, ACL rehab, or hip labrum and glute pain. If you’ve got imaging or you’ve seen an orthopedic doctor, bring it. We’ll review what matters and keep the conversation practical.
2) Movement, mobility, and strength testing
This is where first-timers usually relax. The “tests” are simple and we talk you through them. Think basic ranges of motion, how your joints move, and how your body handles the sport-specific patterns that matter to you. If something hurts, we adjust on the spot. You’re not here to push through sharp pain.
A detail people notice right away: we do one-to-one therapy. You’re not being bounced around a room. We’re focused on you the whole time.
3) We explain what we think is driving it
You’ll hear the “why, ” not just the “do this exercise.” People tell us they appreciate that we explain what to expect, why a movement matters, and what the next few weeks should look like. That’s huge if you’ve been to other places and felt like your issues weren’t being handled.
4) A starter plan you can actually follow
By the end of visit one, we’ll lay out your game plan. That usually includes follow-up frequency, the first phase goals (pain down, range of motion up, stability back), and a short home program so you’re progressing between sessions.
“He also laid out a schedule and sent me home with the proper exercises to do in between my sessions. I felt/feel very confident I am in good hands - and this was only after week 1!”

After your sport rehabilitation session: what’s normal, and what helps most
A little soreness can happen, especially if we wake up muscles that have been “off” for a while. But the goal isn’t to wreck you. A lot of people notice early wins, like feeling better after the first session or moving more comfortably within a few weeks, especially when they stick with the plan.
Your simple aftercare checklist
- Do the home exercises we assign. The “homework” piece is a big reason people progress faster.
- Hydrate, especially in Boynton Beach summer heat. It helps with recovery and cramps.
- Pay attention to patterns. If something feels better after your exercises but flares later, tell us. That info helps us adjust your progression.
- Don’t test it with a full-speed workout that same day unless we specifically cleared it.
Rehab reality check: One of the most common patterns we hear is that results show up when you’re consistent. People who do the between-session work tend to report improved strength, better mobility, and getting back to the gym or back to work with more confidence.
We’ll also tell you when to come back and why. Some people start with twice a week for a short window, then taper as the body stabilizes. Others need a longer ramp-up. Either way, you’ll leave with clear next steps.
Insider tips for athletic rehabilitation in Boynton Beach (that calm the nerves fast)
If you’re coming in from Delray Beach, Boca Raton, Lake Worth Beach, Lantana, Hypoluxo, or right here in Boynton Beach, our best advice is simple. Don’t wait until you’re “in perfect shape” to start. We see a lot of weekend strains and nagging hip or back issues that hang on for months because people try to work around them.
Ask us these 3 questions on day one
- “What’s the short-term goal for the next 2 weeks?” (pain, range of motion, stability, confidence)
- “What do you want me doing at home, and how many days per week?”
- “What’s a realistic timeline for getting back to my sport-specific movements?”
And tell us the truth about your schedule and your budget. One review put it plainly: when insurance didn’t cover visits, we worked out payment plans so they could still stay consistent. That kind of clarity helps us build a plan you’ll actually follow.
If you want a starting point: call us and tell our front desk what body part is bothering you and what sport or activity you’re trying to return to. We’ll get you scheduled at our Gateway Blvd location near I-95 and make sure you know what to bring.
